The Tampa Zoo is one of the few places in the country that houses a critically injured Florida manatee. In fact, it’s the only place in the United States to have a hospital dedicated to providing critical care to wild manatees. It works in conjunction with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to help rehabilitate endangered manatees. The Tampa Zoo was even recognized with the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA)’s prestigious “Awards for Excellence in Conservation” in 2012.

After graduating from Coastal Carolina University, Molly worked for Ripley’s Aquarium in Myrtle Beach and at Dolphin Quest in Bermuda. One of the most popular exhibits at ZooTampa at Lowry Park is the Hamadryas baboon. These unique members of the Old World monkey family are sacred to the Egyptians and were represented by the god of learning. The baboons came to ZooTampa from New York’s Prospect Park Zoo and will be on display in March. With pink faces and silver manes, Hamadyran baboons are highly intelligent primates.

Guests can also spend time in the Great Explorations Children’s Museum. This museum is one of Tampa’s oldest children’s museums, and it is a great place to learn about various fields.
