The Tampa Zoo is one of the few places in the country that houses a critically injured Florida manatee. In fact, it’s the only place in the United States to have a hospital dedicated to providing critical care to wild manatees. It works in conjunction with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to help rehabilitate endangered manatees. The Tampa Zoo was even recognized with the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA)’s prestigious “Awards for Excellence in Conservation” in 2012.
