The Grand Prix Tampa was originally located off of the Katy Freeway, at the northwest corner of West Loop 610 and Old Katy Road. However, this location closed in the early 1990s after the infamous murders. The two employees who were shot were a man and a woman. The murders happened on July 1, 1983. The murders were the work of a recent employee who gained entry into the building under the pretense of picking up their last paycheck. The killers were sentenced to life imprisonment and the victims were all sentenced to death.
